Best Sydney walks for views - Sydney Tower Skywalk

Sydney is a walker’s paradise. Exploring this city on foot is rewarding, and an experience you’ll never forget. Whether you’re a local looking to get to know your surrounds or a visitor looking for a pedestrian-suggestion, here are 5 experiences that definitely won’t disappoint.

Spitting Distance

For unbeatable harbour views, the 10km Manly to Spit walk is a winner. The track follows a rough outline of the harbour, winding across the tops of headlands and through thickets of coastal scrubland. It’s well-maintained, and very much a favourite amongst locals and visitors. Spot native birdlife, and pause along the way to soak up the view of yachts sailing gracefully across the water. You’ll understand why the harbour truly is Sydney’s playground! Take the bus to the start of the walk at The Spit, with its quirky drawbridge, and once you’ve finished, catch the iconic Manly Ferry back to town.

Bondi and Beyond

You probably know the well-trodden Bondi to Bronte route. It’s a Sydney must-do, with joggers and walkers traipsing this coastal trail in their thousands. It’s not hard to understand why, given the fresh ocean views and golden beaches at either end. But there’s more to explore in the area. Head north to Dover Heights for breathtaking views back towards the city. Or, go south and experience the brand new paths around the Malabar Headland; accessible to walkers for the first time in 100 years! The short loop track is perfect for families and a superb place to spot whales on their winter migration.

Eye in the Sky

Looking for the highest views in Sydney? Sydney Tower Eye rises 250 metres above the city streets, overlooking our stunning city! See the gems of Sydney from a unique perspective; looking down from above. Watch the ferries and trains, appearing no bigger than toys, and tiny people rushing about below. The view extends to the Blue Mountains in the west, and the famous beaches of the eastern suburbs. Make the most of your sky-high experience with SKYWALK. It’s a thrilling step beyond your comfort zone, onto a glass walkway suspended above the skyline. Should strong winds or electrical storms cancel your SKYWALK experience, the Weather Promise allows you to reschedule within 7 days.

West Head

The Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park in Sydney’s north is the second oldest national park in Australia, after the Royal National Park (which is the oldest in the world!) Both offer fantastic coastal walks and bushland meanders of varying degrees of difficulty. Ku-Ring-Gai Chase is home to West Head; a rocky headland which looms above Pittwater and the mouth of the Hawkesbury River. The views extend for many kilometres, overlooking Palm Beach and the Barrenjoey Headland, with its lonely lighthouse – made famous by the TV show, Home & Away!

Bay Run

The popular ‘Bay Run’ is a 7-kilometre circuit along the inner harbour, through suburbs such as Lilyfield and Rozelle. The scenery is mostly urban, with bridges, silos and factories giving insight into the area’s light industrial history. You’ll also be treated to pretty views of the Parramatta River. Early morning is prime time for photography, with beautiful light, and an often mirror-still harbour. Later, the Bay Run gets busy with walkers, dogs, children and families, all out for exercise. The people-watching factor is seriously high! Head down to the waterside and enjoy the view.
