Sydney Coast Walks: How To Do The 80km Bondi to Manly Walk

Woohoo – it's finally open! Now entirely signposted and easy to follow, hikers can now tackle The Bondi to Manly walk. 80km (one way), this coastal trek can be split into 6 shorter, interconnected walks. This iconic walk can take between 2-6 days to complete, and along the way, you'll see the best of Sydney Harbour. With a decent level of fitness, anyone can enjoy this incredible wall which takes in beaches, rockpools, cliffs, headlands and historic places. Do it all in one go, or here's how to divide the track.

Bondi to Watsons Bay

One of the gems of the Sydney Harbour National Park, on this section, you'll see secluded beaches, gorgeous sprawling parks, pretty bays and incredible views of the city and harbour. The part connecting Nielsen Park and Bayview Hill Rd is known as the Hermitage Foreshore Track, which will wow you with Milk Beach, Parsley Bay and Nielsen Park.

Watsons Bay to Rose Bay

One of the gems of the Sydney Harbour National Park, on this section, you'll see secluded beaches, gorgeous sprawling parks, pretty bays and incredible views of the city and harbour. The part connecting Nielsen Park and Bayview Hill Rd is known as the Hermitage Foreshore Track, which will wow you with Milk Beach, Parsley Bay and Nielsen Park.

Rose Bay to Harbour Bridge

Keep going into the city as you meander through the fancy, fabulous suburbs of Point Piper, Darling Point and Potts Point. One minute, you're in the city, the next, you're in the stunning Royal Botanic Garden. When you think it can't get any better, the track takes you around Circular Quay and into The Rocks with history and gorgeous architecture all around you. Continue to the Bridge Stairs along Cumberland Street which takes you onto the Harbour Bridge.

Harbour Bridge to Taronga Zoo

Savour the stunning views from the Harbour Bridge as you walk over it to Bradfield Park. Next is Broughton St Lookout, one of the best outlooks in Sydney; views of the skyline, Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Check out the Lavender Bay foreshore, Luna Park and the divine North Sydney Olympic Pool. And DO NOT MISS Wendy's Secret Garden, a one-of-a-kind green space with a unique story. Then walk past Jeffrey St ferry wharf and the shorelines of Kirribilli, Neutral Bay, Cremorne Point and Mosman to Taronga Zoo.

Taronga Zoo to Spit Bridge

This is a two-section section! The first is the 6.5km walk from Taronga Zoo to Balmoral. Again – world-class beaches, bays, lookouts and sights await. Stop for lunch at Balmoral Beach where fish n' chips are an institution. When you've had your fill of fresh food, take on the next 4.5km coastline section to the Spit Bridge, past Wyargine Point and Chinamans Beach.

Spit Bridge to Manly

This is another DON'T MISS section! It's 10kms of pure coastline bliss through bushland and stunning inner harbour bays and beaches. There's no other walk like this one, so take your time, take pics and take it all in. If you get to Manly Beach and you still want more – you can take the North Head circuit walk. Phew! That's a lot of walking. You made it – congratulations.

See it from above at STE

Before you take on the 80km Bondi to Manly Walk, venture up the Sydney Tower Eye to get a birds-eye perspective of where the walk will take you. From up sky-high, work out where's where and how the places are connected. Above all – enjoy the 360-degree view of the harbour city. It's spectacular any time of day and is the last place to see dusk. See if you can spot the Art Deco amusement spot, Luna Park, the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge (also known as 'The Coathanger,' by Sydneysiders). Imagine yourself walking across it as part of the incredible 80km Sydney walk.
