Easter Long Weekend Ideas in Sydney

The Easter long weekend is upon us. What, already? Yep, so it’s time to start planning. We’ve made your job easier with some family-friendly ideas, and recommendations for things to do in Sydney, whether you’re hanging with the family or on a date.

The Eye in the Sky

Oh Sydney, you’re a beautiful city, and even more gorgeous from up high. So, grab the family and head up the Sydney Tower Eye. From the indoor Observation Deck, the view is breathtaking, an incredible 250 metres above the CBD. This is one of Sydney’s best photo spots, and a perfect place to impress your date. If the weather turns nasty and your view is obscured, the ‘weather promise’ means you can return within 7 days to enjoy the experience once visibility improves. Sydney Tower Eye is open on public holidays, including Good Friday, Easter Monday and Anzac Day.

Biggest Backyard

There’s a big secret in the Western Suburbs; a 27-kilometre secret! The Western Sydney Parklands is a series of interconnected green spaces, packed with bike paths and family-friendly play spaces. The jewel of the parklands is the Bungarribee playground near Rooty Hill. This children’s wonderland features futuristic play equipment, including water fountains, tunnel slides, and zip lines. There are plenty of picnic tables and BBQs across the parklands, to enjoy a family get together in Sydney’s biggest backyard.

Date Day

Could there be a more romantic setting than the shores of Balmoral Beach? Facing out across the harbour, it’s hard to believe you’re so close to the city. Throw down a rug on the sand or lawn, and stretch out with the one you love. Maybe you’re thinking ‘what romance? I have kids!’ Don’t worry – you can enjoy all the spoils of this beautiful beach while the kids run riot across the sand. There’s even an island to explore, nearby playgrounds, and no shortage of fish and chips.

Secret Gardens

For spectacular autumn foliage, there are two standout gardens quite close to each other at the northern end of the Blue Mountains. The Mount Tomah Botanic Gardens is stunning at this time of year. Explore the walkways to discover some of Australia’s lovely cool climate native plants, and help yourself to a view or two. Nearby is historic Mount Wilson, famous for its avenue of trees draped in russet red leaves. Wandering beneath them feels like you’ve stepped into a classic Hollywood romance.

Wheely Good Fun

Bike riding in Sydney can be a challenge. All those hills! But if you know where to go, you can have an excellent day out on two wheels. Adventurers should head to the mountain bike circuit at Manly Dam. It’s suitable for beginners to advanced riders and offers one of Sydney’s best trails through natural bushland. For young riders, try the Castle Hill BMX track in Fred Caterson Reserve. And if cruising is more your speed, you can’t beat a foreshore ride along the beach. A top pick for people watching is the Cronulla bike path, heading south from the Wanda Beach carpark.
